1064 nm oscillation under 914 nm intracavity pumping in Nd: YVO4 and sum-frequency mixing to reach blue range
Oxxius blue laser sources today
Presented at CLEO 2006, this paper reports the first demonstration of intracavity sum-frequency mixing between a 914 nm and a 1064 nm Nd:YVO4 laser to generate 67 mW of CW output at 492 nm — a wavelength sitting between the standard 488 nm argon line and the 495 nm absorption band of many fluorescent probes. The intracavity pumping scheme described here avoids the need for an external pump laser, reducing system complexity while enabling efficient nonlinear frequency conversion in a compact monolithic architecture.
The 492 nm wavelength, close to the widely used 488 nm excitation line, is relevant for fluorescence microscopy and flow cytometry applications where fine spectral selectivity matters. This early work on sum-frequency generation in Nd:YVO4 systems contributed to Oxxius’s broader expertise in compact visible laser sources, reflected today in the CW & Modulated Laser product line covering wavelengths from UV to near-infrared.
Abstract
We present for the first time a Nd: YVO 4 laser emitting at 1064-nm intracavity pumped by a 914-nm diode-pumped Nd: YVO 4 laser. Intracavity sum-frequency operation is realized to reach blue range. We obtained 67-mW at 492-nm.
